Just a few hours separate Lebanon from entering the constitutional period that allows the Parliament to elect a new President. A possible salvation for Lebanon lies in bringing a new figure to the presidency, who might offer solutions and initiatives instead of obstacles and obstruction. There is a real opportunity for the Parliament, particularly, to make this happen through the call for consecutive sessions starting from the first day of the constitutional period for electing the new President. However, the picture remains unclear, as most parties have not yet made their choices, and the issue has not been seriously addressed. This is because the regional and international landscape remains unclear, the anticipated nuclear agreement has yet to be finalized, and thus, the discussion of the Lebanese issue in decision-making capitals is postponed and not prioritized, especially following recent developments that have surfaced in the Iraqi arena.
