The British newspaper "Daily Mail" published the results of a poll that allowed fans to choose the best player in Premier League history so far. Over a thousand fans participated in the poll, with most of them selecting Frenchman Thierry Henry, the Arsenal legend. Henry surpassed stars such as Portuguese icon Cristiano Ronaldo and Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, receiving 15% of the votes. Ronaldo, the Manchester United legend and current player, ranked second, ahead of Alan Shearer, the Premier League's all-time top scorer.
Ronaldo scored 102 goals in 226 Premier League matches and won three consecutive titles in the Premier League with the Red Devils from 2006 to 2009. Alan Shearer, former striker for Newcastle and Blackburn, came in third, surpassing Frenchman Eric Cantona in fourth place and Englishman Steven Gerrard in fifth. Gerrard, Aston Villa's coach and former Liverpool captain, received more than double the votes of Mohamed Salah among Liverpool fans.
Salah, Liverpool's star, did not appear in the top five, placing seventh after scoring 156 impressive goals in 254 matches for Jürgen Klopp's team. Salah is one of only three currently active players to be listed among the top 20 players in Premier League history, alongside Ronaldo and Kevin De Bruyne, the Manchester City midfielder who ranked eighth.
