America Withdraws Some Troops from Ukraine: Pentagon Clarifies

The U.S. Department of Defense, known as the Pentagon, announced the withdrawal of some of its troops currently stationed in Ukraine, a move that comes amid ongoing concerns over a potential Russian invasion. This decision was made by U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, directing National Guard members to exit Ukraine and reposition themselves "in other locations in Europe," according to Pentagon spokesperson John Kirby.

It is noted that the 160 soldiers in Ukraine have been in the country since November for a training mission. Kirby explained in his statement: "This realignment does not reflect a change in our resolve to support the Ukrainian armed forces, but it will provide flexibility in reassuring allies and deterring aggression. They are leaving Ukraine and will be repositioned elsewhere in Europe. The secretary made this decision out of an abundance of caution, prioritizing the safety and security of our personnel and considering guidance from the State Department regarding U.S. personnel in Ukraine."
