The Israeli army has acknowledged the killing of a Palestinian family of 10, including 8 children and 2 women, due to "incorrect targeting" in Gaza. They stated that their air force was targeting an apartment believed to be housing several senior leaders of Hamas, but it turned out that those inside had no connection to the group.
A report by the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor revealed that Israel killed 53 Palestinians in the targeting of 19 families in the Gaza Strip during the current escalation. The report documented by name 19 direct bombing incidents targeting families from last Monday until today, including 13 instances where homes were bombed while occupied, 2 targeted gatherings, 2 vehicles, and 2 bombings of land and farmland, resulting in 53 deaths, among them 20 children and 14 women.
Victims included a man, his wife, and their daughter, along with mothers and their children, and siblings. Three mothers were killed along with four or three of their children, with the death toll likely to rise as there are missing persons from some families under the rubble.
The latest incident occurred early today, resulting in the death of 10 Palestinians, including 2 women and 8 children, due to an Israeli bombing of a residential building in the Al-Shati refugee camp west of Gaza City. The only survivor was a child aged about 5 months, who remains hospitalized for treatment.
The human rights report stated that "the Israeli army's admission of incorrect targeting reflects its disregard for the lives of civilians; while it speaks of accidental casualties, it concerns a horrific massacre that killed 10 people, with others still missing under the rubble."
The report emphasized that Article 25 of the Hague Regulation regarding laws and customs of war prohibits "attacking or bombing cities, villages, homes, and unprotected buildings" and urged the International Criminal Court to "monitor the ongoing Israeli violations in the Gaza Strip, include them in investigations recently decided regarding previous violations, and work towards holding Israeli leaders and soldiers accountable to prevent them from escaping punishment."
