Activation of the Cooperation and Joint Defense Agreement Between the UAE and France

The Ministry of Defense of the United Arab Emirates announced the activation of the cooperation and joint defense agreement between the UAE and France to confront the failed terrorist attempts targeting the UAE. Major General Saleh Al-Amri, Commander of Joint Operations, visited the French Armed Forces Headquarters in Paris on Friday. During the meeting, Al-Amri met with Major General Philippe Senga, Commander of French Joint Operations, and Major General Laurent Marboeuf, Director of International Cooperation. The two sides discussed activating areas of cooperation and joint defense between the UAE and France.

French Minister of Defense Florence Parly previously stated on Friday that her country would support the UAE in securing its airspace against Houthi terrorist attacks. In a tweet on Friday, the French Armed Forces Minister expressed that "France will assist the UAE, its main ally in the Gulf, in securing its airspace that is facing attacks from Houthi rebels from Yemen." Parly added that the UAE "had faced serious attacks on its territory in January, and to show our solidarity with this friendly country, France decided to provide military support, especially to protect its airspace from any violations." Last Wednesday, the UAE Ministry of Defense announced the interception and destruction of three hostile drones that breached the country's airspace, away from populated areas.
