The Russian Defense Ministry announced that a ceasefire has been reached at the Azovstal steel plant to evacuate wounded Ukrainians. In a statement, they said: "There is currently a ceasefire and a humanitarian corridor has been opened through which wounded Ukrainian soldiers are being transported to medical facilities in Novozovsk," according to the Associated Press.
Ukrainian authorities did not immediately confirm this information.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry's statement, "This ceasefire is the result of negotiations with the Ukrainian fighters who have fortified themselves in the underground passages of this massive industrial site," but the statement did not specify the number of people to be evacuated.
Ukrainian authorities stated that there are still about a thousand soldiers remaining, including 600 wounded.
