The General Directorate of Civil Defense urged the necessity of following public safety guidelines during the storm currently affecting the country, particularly regarding ensuring the safety of heating devices before using them.
The National News Agency reported a statement from the General Directorate of Civil Defense emphasizing the need to exercise caution when igniting heating devices that operate with an open flame ("charcoal stoves," gas heaters, etc.) and to place them safely to avoid igniting materials such as curtains and laundry. It highlighted the importance of turning off these devices before going to sleep or leaving the house. The General Directorate also stressed the need to ventilate rooms occasionally to maintain necessary oxygen levels. It reminded citizens to call emergency number 125 in the event of any emergency and to refer to the official page for more details.
In a related context, the Public Relations Department of the Beirut Municipality announced that "based on the directives of Beirut Governor Judge Marwan Abboud, the readiness status has been elevated for the Fire and Rescue Brigade of Beirut and the relevant municipal services to face the potential impacts arising from the unusual weather conditions expected throughout this week due to the atmospheric depression Joyce affecting Lebanon. Its consequences could pose risks to public safety due to accompanying rain, thunderstorms, and active winds nearing speeds of 60 km/h."
The Beirut Municipality urged citizens to adhere to the preventive guidelines issued by the relevant authorities and to remain at home in compliance with the public mobilization decision. It recommended not approaching the seaside promenade or beaches due to the strong winds that will inevitably lead to high waves, to ensure their safety. The municipality reminded Beirut citizens to contact the Fire Brigade Operations Room at emergency number 175 from any phone line in case of any emergencies, which is available to city residents 24 hours a day.
