Djokovic: The Ban on Russians at

Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic, the world number one, described the ban on Russian and Belarusian players from participating in this summer's Wimbledon as "crazy." The All England Club, which organizes the Wimbledon tournament, announced the ban on Wednesday following Russia's military invasion of Ukraine. The British Tennis Federation also confirmed it would prevent Russian and Belarusian players from competing in other tournaments hosted in the country. The global tennis associations allowed Russian and Belarusian players to compete in tournaments as neutrals but expressed their disappointment with the sweeping ban imposed by Wimbledon. Djokovic, who is currently participating in the Belgrade tournament, stated that he is also upset by the decision. He said, having grown up during the civil war in his country after the collapse of Yugoslavia: "I will always condemn war; I will never support war as I am a child of war." He added: "Players, tennis players, athletes have nothing to do with war; when politics intersects with sports, the result is not good."
