American Funding of One Billion Dollars for Electricity Projects in Sudan

A source in the Sudanese government stated that Samantha Power, the Executive Director of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), informed Khartoum that the United States will fund electricity projects in the country amounting to one billion dollars. The government source, in comments to "Asharq," indicated that the American funding is part of a U.S. project related to energy and renewable energy in the African continent (Power Africa). The American project aims to produce 30,000 megawatts of electricity for the African continent to enhance development efforts in the region. The source explained that Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok had requested from Samantha Power the possibility of Sudan joining this important project at the beginning of July.
