Burkina Faso First Team to Reach African Cup of Nations Quarterfinals

The Burkina Faso national team qualified for the quarterfinals of the Africa Cup of Nations hosted by Cameroon, defeating Gabon in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in regular and extra time. Burkina Faso overcame the resistance of 10 Gabonese players, winning 7-6 in penalties after finishing the match tied 1-1 in Limbe, Cameroon, on Sunday. Burkina Faso opened the scoring through Bertrand Traore in the 28th minute, just 10 minutes after the same striker missed a penalty. Gabon equalized in the 90th minute with a goal from Bruno Ecuele Manga, bringing the match to a draw at the end of regular and extra time. The two teams then proceeded to penalties, which Burkina Faso won 7-6, becoming the first team to advance to the quarterfinals of the African tournament.
