Michael Ryan, the Director of Emergency Programs at the World Health Organization, announced that COVID-19 infection rates worldwide have stabilized at a "very high level" over the past two weeks. Ryan stated at a press conference, "If we look at the infection curve over the last two weeks, we can see that there is a sort of stability, but it is at a very high level." He pointed out that the global epidemiological situation is better than it was two or three months ago. He added that there has been a significant decrease in infection rates in some countries, but the situation is entirely different in others. He indicated that this could be due to various factors, including the effectiveness of detecting virus variants, the easing of restrictions, and increased social interactions among people. The Director-General of the WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, had warned that the world is in a dangerous phase of the pandemic due to the presence of COVID variants such as the "Delta" variant.
