Nasreen Shahin, the head of the active committee for contracted teachers in public primary education, confirmed that there will be no backing down from the open strike until the Minister of Education issues an official decision to consider the full contracts of all contracted teachers under all their titles.
The National News Agency reported a statement from Shahin affirming that there would be no retreat from the open strike before a formal decision from the Minister of Education. The statement clarified that today, four demonstrations were organized in Hermel, Baalbek, Arsal, and Tyre, in preparation for a protest on Thursday, the 11th, at 10 AM in front of the Ministry of Education.
Shahin had announced in a statement three weeks ago the continuation of the open strike in public schools, following a meeting at the Ministry of Education with the General Director of Education, Fadi Yarak, the Director of Guidance and Counseling, Hilda Khoury, the Director of Primary Education, George Daoud, educational and administrative directors, and representatives from the associations of primary and secondary education.
The statement at that time indicated that the meeting discussed the challenges faced by contracted teachers and exchanged positive proposals, highlighting that "no common mechanism was reached to preserve the full rights of teachers despite their assurances to do so, but without an official decision." The statement noted that teachers were asked to suspend the strike while waiting for the end of the public mobilization to issue a decision from the ministry detailing how the compensation would be handled.
