The Moscow Planetarium has announced that residents in several regions of Earth will be able to witness a unique astronomical phenomenon tomorrow, Friday. According to a statement from the center: "On the night of Friday, April 22, residents in several regions will be able to observe the distinctive Lyrid meteor shower," as reported by Russian media. The statement also noted, "This year, the peak of the mentioned meteor shower will coincide with the moon approaching the last quarter phase, and under these conditions, if the sky is clear, people will be able to see this phenomenon almost throughout the night. According to estimates from the International Meteor Station, observers of the Lyrid phenomenon this year will be able to see about 18 meteors falling in the sky every hour." Residents in the northern regions of the Earth can clearly view the Lyrids each year during the period between April 16 and 25, as the meteors appear in Earth's sky due to the atmosphere interacting with meteoroid streams, which contain debris from comets that burns up in the air upon contact with gases.
