Russia Suspends Electricity Supply to Finland

Russia will suspend its electricity supply to Finland at the end of this week, as announced by a supply company. Meanwhile, the Finnish electricity company downplayed the impact of the measure, which coincides with rising tensions regarding Helsinki's bid to join NATO. "RAO Nordic," a subsidiary of the Russian state energy holding "Inter RAO," based in Helsinki, stated that it had not received any payments for the electricity supplied to Finland since May 6. The group noted that there was no way to settle electricity bills from Russia. They mentioned, "This situation is exceptional and has occurred for the first time in over 20 years," adding, "We are forced to suspend electricity supplies starting May 14." The company continued, "We hope that the situation will improve soon" and that deliveries from Russia will resume.
