Testing the Watermelon: Here's the Best Method

Many people are unaware of how to select a sweet watermelon, as it can be challenging to determine the ripeness of the fruit. However, there are several signs that confirm whether a watermelon is sweet and red inside. A social media account shared a video outlining simple steps to ensure you buy a flavorful watermelon.

According to the account "eatinghealthytoday" on Instagram, the first step is to look at the yellow spot on the bottom of the watermelon. A large yellow spot indicates that it spent more time ripening and should be sweeter. In contrast, a whiter spot suggests that it was picked too early and hasn’t reached peak ripeness. Since watermelons do not continue to ripen after being harvested, choosing one with a whiter spot likely means you'll end up with an ordinary flavor.

The second step to check the ripeness is by listening to the sound it makes when you tap it. This method is quite popular among watermelon enthusiasts. A ripe watermelon should emit a deep sound when struck with your hand or fist, somewhat similar to a musical note. If the sound is hollow or flat, it's likely overripe.
