Indictment of the Governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon

The Public Prosecutor of Mount Lebanon, Judge Ghada Aoun, has indicted the Governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon, Riad Salameh, for the crime of breach of trust in the case related to the subsidized dollar.

Additionally, she has charged the head of the Banking Control Committee, Maya Dabbagh, with the crime of job negligence, and the owner of a dollar import company, Michel Maktouf, along with the money changer Abdul Rahman Al-Faied, for violating an administrative decision. Judge Hassan Al-Shami filed a complaint to Judge Aoun after obstructing a request related to a student transfer. The file has been referred to the first investigating judge, Nicolas Mansour.

It is noteworthy that the Public Prosecutor had previously heard the testimony of the Governor of the Central Bank as a witness in this case. The Public Prosecutor in Switzerland has requested legal assistance from the Lebanese authorities to investigate allegations that Governor Riad Salameh, his brother Raja Salameh, and his assistant, Marianne Hawiik, conducted bank transfers totaling approximately 400 million dollars.
