The Secretary-General of the Asian Chess Federation, Emirati Hisham Al-Taher, mentioned in a press statement that he received an official request from the Russian Chess Federation to join the continental union of the game. He noted that necessary actions were taken and the matter was referred to Professor Dr. Rashid Al-Anzi, the legal advisor to the Asian Federation, to provide his opinion in preparation for presenting it to the Executive Office and then the General Assembly of the Asian Federation for a decision on this matter. It is worth mentioning that the Russian Chess Federation competes under the European continental federation and has a distinguished group of players ranked among the "Top 10" in the world, including Alexander Grischuk, Ian Nepomniachtchi, and Anish Giri, as well as player Alexandra Goryachkina.
