Her small hands could not save her from bearing the consequences of a horrific war, as she appeared in a video shivering from the cold, which swept through social media, conveying her plight to the entire world. Following the recent harsh cold wave that struck the tents of thousands of displaced Syrians and intensified their suffering in the north of the country, a video surfaced of a displaced girl shivering with her feet covered in rainwater. The tents had collapsed, forcing children to walk on ice, in extremely harsh conditions. This clip garnered widespread sympathy on social media, especially as she appeared without uttering a single word.
A Real Disaster Zone
Meanwhile, Mark Katz, the UN's deputy regional humanitarian coordinator for the Syrian crisis and responsible for cross-border aid operations from Turkey to northwestern Syria, warned that this area is considered a real disaster zone. He confirmed that heavy snow and freezing rain have severely impacted around 250,000 displaced Syrians living in camps in the last major stronghold of the opposition in northwestern Syria. It is noted that temperatures had sharply dropped in recent days in that area, reaching 7 degrees Celsius below zero, along with heavy rainfall in some regions. The United Nations confirmed that around 150,000 people living in tents were affected, while another quarter of a million people are suffering the worst effects of this cold wave spreading throughout the region.
