Details of the Kidnapping of a 15-Year-Old Girl in Iraq on a Tuk-Tuk for Rape

The Ministry of Interior's police affairs agency announced today, Wednesday, the liberation of a kidnapped girl and the arrest of the perpetrators within a short time frame of less than 24 hours.

According to a statement from the Baghdad Criminal Investigation Directorate, the office was informed about the kidnapping of a 15-year-old girl in the Diyala Bridge area while she was heading to her aunt’s house in the same area on May 15, 2021, by unknown individuals using a tuk-tuk and fleeing to an unknown location.

Immediately, a working team was formed under the supervision of the Undersecretary for Police Affairs to gather information and conduct investigations to identify the perpetrators and their location. A child present at the time of the incident identified the characteristics of the tuk-tuk and the distinctive marks, which led to suspicion regarding one of the suspects with a criminal background.

Legal approvals were obtained, and a raid was conducted on the suspect's house in the area, where he was arrested alongside the kidnapped girl. The suspect confessed to being involved in the kidnapping with others and agreeing to rape her after consuming alcohol at night. The girl was liberated before any sexual assault occurred, and a quantity of alcoholic beverages was seized before consumption.

Swift actions were taken at the locations of the suspects, leading to their arrest. They all confessed to participating in the kidnapping, and they were apprehended along with the release of the kidnapped girl in a record time of less than 24 hours. They have been detained under Article 421 of the Penal Code and presented to the judiciary to receive their just punishment.
