There are over 200 symptoms of cancer, and warnings about signs indicating the disease can save lives. According to various health authorities, three warning signs of the disease that often go unnoticed can appear "in the face." An entry published on the Reynolds website, which supports cancer patients, explains the cancer symptoms that "women are likely to overlook." The health site states, "Some lung cancer patients reported noticing swelling, or redness in the face. The explanation for this is that small cell lung tumors usually block blood vessels in the chest, preventing blood from flowing freely from the head and face." These changes are considered a "common sign" of lung cancer, but they can also occur with several other types of cancer. For example, neuroendocrine tumors specifically grow in neuroendocrine cells, which are responsible for transmitting signals by releasing hormones to help the body perform its functions.
