The U.S. court has ordered former Liverpool and England striker Daniel Sturridge to pay $30,000 to a man who found his stolen dog.
The story dates back to 2019 when burglars broke into the English player's home in California, stealing some of his belongings along with his dog, "Lucci." At the time, Sturridge, 32, offered a reward for the return of his dog, stating, "I will pay anything, I am very serious, I want my dog back," as reported by the BBC.
After some time, an American rapper named Foster Washington found Sturridge's dog and posted pictures of it on social media, which helped in returning it to its owner. However, it appears that the Perth Glory player has delayed fulfilling his promise, prompting Washington to seek legal action, which led to the court ordering Sturridge to pay $30,000 to the musician.
Washington remarked, "When I found the dog, I thought my life would be better" after receiving the reward promised by the player. He expressed his disappointment with Sturridge for avoiding payment, stating he was "very grateful to the people who raised awareness." Following the ruling, Washington added, "I hope he pays and doesn’t try to appeal the ruling... I am excited and can’t believe the judgment was issued."
