The security official for the Kasarani basketball area in Kenya, Peter Mwanzo, revealed the final moments of Egyptian player Karim Abu Qoura's death. The board of directors of the Egyptian Basketball Federation, led by Magdy Abu Freikha, mourned Karim Abu Qoura, a player for the "Heliopolis" basketball club, who passed away on Friday morning in Kenya. Karim Abu Qoura was part of the delegation representing the American University in Cairo (AUC) at the ongoing African Universities Basketball Championship in Kenya and died during a game.
Mwanzo stated in press remarks, "The 20-year-old player collapsed on his back during the match. The paramedics responded quickly to try to save him." He added, "The paramedics took the Egyptian player to the nearest hospital from the court, and the doctors made every effort, but unfortunately, he passed away." It is currently being coordinated with Egyptian embassy officials in Kenya to transport the body to Cairo later on Friday. Karim moved from Bahrain to Egypt to continue his university studies, where he joined Heliopolis Club to pursue his basketball career. He previously represented the Bahrain national team in several international events and played with Al-Hidd and Manama.
