The head of the Bakery Owners Syndicate in Mount Lebanon, Antoine Saif, confirmed that "the bread crisis is real and its cause is the lack of flour availability at the mills due to the Lebanese Central Bank not paying the dues to foreign suppliers." Saif stated to "Voice of Lebanon" that "the ships were previously unloaded without paying for the wheat, and the mills cannot deliver flour if the wheat is not paid for." He mentioned that "there are six mills currently out of operation and some bakeries have closed, while there is pressure on the bakeries that are still operating, leading to citizens waiting in queues, and we fear that 'blood will be shed'."
