What Caused Twitter's Stock Drop?

Twitter's stock experienced a decline on the U.S. stock market during the last hours of trading on Friday.

This drop is attributed to the company's decision to close one of the most prominent accounts on the platform, which belongs to U.S. President Donald Trump. Twitter's shares fell by more than 2% on Friday evening, recording immediate losses following the company's announcement that it had permanently suspended Trump's account due to the risk of further incitement to violence.

Twitter's shares were traded at $50.20, down 2.4% from the previous closing price. The platform had temporarily suspended Trump's account, which had over 88 million followers, the previous Wednesday after pro-Trump protesters stormed the Capitol building in Washington, D.C. The company had warned of further violations from the president's accounts that would lead to a permanent suspension, which indeed transpired on Friday.
