Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle announced on Sunday the birth of their daughter Lilibet Diana in California, after a year of turmoil within the British royal family. The couple stated in a statement: "We named Lily after her grandmother, Her Majesty the Queen, which is a nickname for (Elizabeth II). Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, Princess of Wales (Diana)."
The statement also mentioned that Meghan Markle and the approximately 3.5-kilogram baby, who is eighth in line to the British throne, "are both healthy." Harry and his wife wrote: "She surpasses anything we could have imagined," according to Agence France-Presse.
Prince Harry (36), sixth in the line of succession to the British throne, and Markle stepped back from royal duties in April 2020. The couple lives with their two-year-old son Archie in a lavish villa near Los Angeles and has signed lucrative contracts with Netflix and Spotify.
