In the world of football, the terms millions of dollars or euros have become commonplace, particularly when discussing player transfers and salaries. Large amounts of money are often reported in the sports news that rival the economies of some third-world countries. The success of clubs in top leagues around the world is often measured by the amount of money they possess; clubs that spend in attracting stars reap positive rewards. These clubs gain titles to add to their records, establishing themselves among the powerful teams competing for honors both locally and globally.
A recent report revealed that the brand value of the Spanish club Real Madrid has been ranked the highest in the world for the third consecutive year, valued at €1.276 billion, equivalent to $1.55 billion. The club retains a slight edge over its fierce rival, Barcelona, which occupies the second spot with a brand value of €1.266 billion, equivalent to $1.54 billion, decreasing by 10% from the previous year, according to "Brand Finance."
The list comprises only five clubs that have surpassed the billion-euro mark in brand value: Real Madrid, its Spanish rival Barcelona, English clubs Manchester United and Manchester City, and German club Bayern Munich. Additionally, the list of the top ten clubs with the highest brand values includes six English clubs, while Italian clubs have completely missed out.
The website calculates brand values in its rankings using the royalty relief method, a widely accepted approach in industry standards, which includes estimates of potential future revenues that can be attributed to a brand.
