The Public Relations Department of the Beirut Municipality issued a statement regarding a large fire that broke out in the New Road area.
The National News Agency reported from the Public Relations Department of the Beirut Municipality that at 17:30 on Friday, January 29, 2021, the Beirut Fire Brigade's operations room received a phone call informing them of a large fire inside an apartment in the New Road area on Al-Jumaa Street. The statement added that firefighting units rushed to the scene, and upon arrival, flames were blazing in one of the apartments located on the fifth floor of the building. Rescue teams immediately began, in coordination with the Civil Defense, the process of evacuating residents trapped in the building, successfully extracting families composed of about 17 individuals using the fire brigade's aerial ladder.
The agency clarified that simultaneously, the brigade's paramedic team provided first aid to the building's residents after they suffered from breathing difficulties due to smoke inhalation caused by the fire, indicating that a pregnant woman in her twenties was transferred to the hospital for treatment after experiencing breathing issues. Meanwhile, firefighting and civil defense units worked promptly to contain and extinguish the flames, preventing them from spreading to other parts of the building, and then conducted cooling operations to secure the area and prevent any fire resurgence.
