British media reported on Thursday that Liverpool is close to finalizing a deal worth £60 million to compensate for the absence of Egyptian star Mohamed Salah and Senegalese star Sadio Mane in the coming period. The British newspaper "The Sun" indicated that Liverpool is moving forward with the signing of Colombian winger Luis Diaz, who has established himself as one of Europe's top talents over the past year with his Portuguese club Porto.
Luis Diaz (24 years old) is viewed as the perfect substitute for Salah and Mane, as the duo has joined their national teams to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations, which is set to take place in Cameroon from January 9 to February 6, 2022.
German coach Jürgen Klopp knows the player well from Liverpool's matches against Porto in the group stage of this season's UEFA Champions League. Diaz's contract includes a release clause of £67 million, but Liverpool hopes to acquire the player for a lower price.
It's worth mentioning that Luis Diaz was a joint top scorer of the 2021 Copa America, alongside Argentine star Lionel Messi, with both scoring four goals each. The Colombian star has also netted 12 goals in the Portuguese league this season so far.
