The social media application TikTok has become the most downloaded app in the world, with over 176 million downloads since the beginning of this year, making it the fifth app to be downloaded more than 3.5 billion times since its launch.
According to a report from Sensor Tower, a company that specializes in app market tracking, no app has reached 176 million downloads in the first few months of the year prior to TikTok since the beginning of 2018.
In second place is the Instagram app, which has been downloaded approximately 151 million times since the start of the year. Previously, this app held the title of the most downloaded app globally. In Asia, Instagram is the number one most downloaded app.
CNET, a technology-focused website, noted that Meta, the company that owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, has 3 of the top 5 most downloaded apps. Instagram and Facebook were the most downloaded apps across the Google Play Store.
