The Turkish Ministry of Defense stated that Kurdish militants carried out a mortar attack on a Turkish military base in Northern Iraq on Thursday, resulting in the injury of a Turkish soldier, who later died in the hospital. The statement added that Turkish forces immediately responded to the attackers and managed to "neutralize" three members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, using a term that typically means killing them. The Kurdistan Workers' Party, which is classified as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States, and the European Union, has been armed against the Turkish state since 1984. More than 40,000 people have lost their lives in the conflict, which primarily occurs in Southeastern Turkey. Turkey is currently conducting operations targeting militants in Northern Iraq, where their main bases are located.
