A 61-year-old woman and a 7-year-old girl were injured in a knife attack at an elementary school in the town of Esslingen, southern Germany, on Friday. The suspect attacked the woman and the girl with a knife and then fled the scene. A 24-year-old Dutch citizen from Esslingen was arrested later and is largely believed to be the perpetrator, having approached a passerby and asked them to inform the police that he was responsible for the crime, according to the Stuttgart public prosecutor's office and the Reutlingen police late Friday. A police spokesperson stated that the woman and the girl suffered serious injuries and are hospitalized. Information revealed that the attack occurred at the school's entrance, with only a few children present in the building at the time. The police reported that the children are receiving psychological care following the attack. After the crime, the school was cordoned off and police officers searched the building, while a police helicopter was deployed to search for the man.
