During the summit, Biden was wearing a translation headset while Prime Minister Suga was speaking about the importance of scientific cooperation and urging the U.S. to ease restrictions on Japanese rice imports. After that, Biden took out a pen and began jotting down notes, showing signs of confusion as he started checking the headset's cable, which seemed to be having a problem. He then called one of his aides to fix the headset issue. The aide examined the headset and its connection to determine what was wrong before the live broadcast capturing the scene was cut off.
