A correspondent from "beIN SPORTS" in Egypt confirmed that the Egyptian Football Association will announce the new coach of the "Pharaohs" team shortly, following the dismissal of Ihab Darwich. It is highly expected that the new coach of the Egyptian national team will be Vladimir Petkovic, who is best known for his tenure with the Swiss national team. Petkovic has become a prominent option for the Egyptian Federation after negotiations with Portuguese coach Paulo Sousa failed, making Petkovic the frontrunner for the position.
Who is Petkovic?
Petkovic was born in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and holds three nationalities: Bosnian, Croatian, and Swiss. He is 58 years old and began his coaching career with the Swiss team Bellinzona in 1997. He has managed several teams in Switzerland and then Lazio in Italy in 2012, where he remained for two years and led the team to win the Coppa Italia in 2013.
One of Petkovic's most notable coaching roles was leading the Swiss national team from 2014 to 2021, during which he guided them to qualify for the World Cup twice, reaching the Round of 16 in both the 2014 and 2018 tournaments. His last coaching tenure was with French club Bordeaux, from which he departed last season due to poor results.
