Video: Omani Team Reveals the Truth about the Barhout Well, "Prison of Jinn," in Yemen

A great cave long shrouded in myths, it has sparked fear in many; this is the Barhout Well or "Khasef Foujit" in Al-Mahrah Governorate, eastern Yemen. For many years, no one dared to venture into this profound cave, which has a circular opening with a diameter of about 30 meters, until the "Omani Cave Exploration Team" courageously decided to explore it. They revealed to the world that the frightening stories surrounding Barhout Well are not true. Team members descended to the bottom of the well to explore and document its geological and environmental features; it reaches a depth of about 112 meters and expands to about 116 meters in diameter at the bottom. Groundwater flows from the walls of the cave, creating beautiful waterfalls, and many creatures, like frogs, snakes, and insects, have made this cave their home. Thus, the legend of horror surrounding this cave may soon end, turning it into a popular tourist attraction in the near future.
