The Egyptian theater director, Jalal El-Sharkawy, passed away today, Friday, at the age of 88, due to complications from the COVID-19 virus. His daughter, Abir El-Sharkawy, announced the news of his death on her official Facebook page. It is noted that El-Sharkawy contracted COVID-19 more than 10 days ago, was hospitalized, and remained in intensive care until he breathed his last today.

Who is Jalal El-Sharkawy?

Jalal El-Sharkawy was born on June 14, 1934. He obtained a Bachelor of Science from Cairo University in 1954, a special diploma in Education and Psychology from Ain Shams University in 1955, a Bachelor's degree from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts with honors in 1958, and a diploma in directing from the Higher Institute of Cinematic Studies in France in 1962. He began his professional career by directing his first work, "A Widow and Three Daughters," in 1965. He directed a large number of plays, including "Constitution, O Our Lords," "The Terrorist Gift," and "The Story of the Western Neighborhood," while "The School of Troublemakers" remains his most famous comedic play.
