While returning to Germany, the German national team's plane encountered difficulties in the air. The team faced a frightening air emergency when the plane declared an emergency over Scotland on Thursday morning, necessitating a landing at Edinburgh Airport. The German squad was returning home after a significant victory, winning 4-0 against Iceland in the sixth round of the European qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The English newspaper "Daily Mail" confirmed that the German team's plane faced difficulties at an altitude of 29,000 feet, and it took 20 minutes before landing in the Scottish capital, during which the plane continued to declare an emergency until it was resolved. It is still unclear what caused this sudden incident and what damage occurred to the aircraft.
Flight plans indicated that "Klasjet flight KLJ2703" made a sudden turn between the cities of Dundee and Arbroath, rapidly descending. Reports indicate that the Boeing 737 was transmitting emergency distress signal 7700, indicating that the transponder was reporting an emergency situation on board.
After regaining control of the situation, the plane ultimately landed safely in the Scottish capital at 4 AM GMT, 6 AM Cairo time, and 7 AM Mecca time. The official Twitter account of the German national team shared the details, stating: "Safety first, we safely stopped in Edinburgh as a precaution, and from there, individual return trips will be arranged." In a later tweet, the account reassured the fans: "We are fine, safety checks on the plane are still ongoing."
