Several cities in Argentina and neighboring South American countries have recorded unprecedented high temperatures as the region experiences a historic heatwave. Cindy Fernandez, an expert from the National Meteorological Agency, stated, "Practically, all of Argentina and neighboring countries like Uruguay, southern Brazil, and Paraguay are experiencing the hottest days in history." In many cities, temperatures have reached their highest levels since records began, with some areas hitting 45 degrees Celsius, according to the meteorological agency. Fernandez added, "From central Patagonia to the northern part of the country, temperatures are being recorded at 40 degrees or more." The heat and prolonged drought have affected crops in the grain-producing country, but there is hope for a decrease in temperatures with a predicted decline in the coming week, followed by a period of rain to refresh the bodies of people and plants. Elizabeth Basin, waiting for a bus in Buenos Aires, remarked, "It’s another sweltering day... we’ve been living through a hot week and it feels like the body is adapting to this heat."
