Dani Alves Announces Departure from Barcelona

The experienced Brazilian international right-back, Dani Alves, has announced his departure from Spanish club Barcelona for the second time after rejoining last year. Alves (39 years old) returned to defend the colors of the Catalan club last November at the request of coach Xavi, signing a short-term contract until the end of the last season. Alves revealed that he will not renew his contract for an additional season and said via his Instagram account: "I would like to thank all the staff at the club for the opportunity they gave me to return to this club and wear its jersey again; you have no idea how happy I am."

Alves has played 408 matches for Barcelona over two periods, the first from 2008 to 2016 when the team experienced a golden era by winning the Spanish league title 6 times, the Champions League 3 times, and the Copa del Rey 4 times. Alves is still representing the Brazilian national team and recently played two friendly matches against Japan and South Korea this month. He is expected to be included in the official squad that will participate in the World Cup in Qatar scheduled from November 21 to December 18.
