4 Things You Should Clean When You Arrive at a Hotel Room

A cleaning expert revealed how she cleans her hotel room as soon as she enters. In an interview with the Express newspaper, Vanessa Amaro, who has over 3.6 million followers on TikTok, explained her four-step process for cleaning her hotel room. She shared a video earlier this year demonstrating these steps, which garnered over 101,000 likes.

1. **Check for Bed Bugs**

The first thing Vanessa does is check the bed for bed bugs, which are often found in the seams of mattresses, carpets, rugs, and any small crevices. These pests can travel in luggage, making it crucial to inspect the room for signs of bed bugs before using the bed. Signs of bed bugs include blood spots on the bedding or small brown stains (bed bug droppings) on the bed.

2. **Disinfect Surfaces**

Vanessa then disinfects and sanitizes all surfaces, especially nightstands, remote controls, phones, and anything touched by hotel guests. Don’t forget about light switches, door handles, and everything else in the room.

3. **The Bathroom**

Although the bathroom may look clean and shiny, bacteria and germs are invisible. Therefore, Vanessa sanitizes the sink and everything in the bathroom before also cleaning the toilet. If you want to be thorough, you can also wipe down the shower and floor with disinfectant wipes or spray.

4. **Linens and Towels**

Since Vanessa can’t wash the sheets and towels in the room upon arrival, she brings her own linens. Bed bugs and other pests, as well as germs, can be present on the sheets and towels if the cleaning staff did not adhere to proper standards.
