Philippe Coutinho shone in his first appearance for Aston Villa, coming off the bench to help secure a 2-2 draw against Manchester United in the Premier League on Saturday. United appeared to be on track for their second win in a week against Steven Gerrard's side, having seen Bruno Fernandes score a goal in each half, the first coming from a major error by goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez. Villa's performance improved significantly in the second half, but Coutinho made a significant impact after coming on following Fernandes' second goal in the 67th minute.
Coutinho played a crucial role in narrowing the gap, assisting teammate Jacob Ramsey, who struck powerfully towards goal. Ramsey then passed the ball back to Coutinho, allowing the former Liverpool and Brazil international to equalize from close range in the 82nd minute. Coutinho almost stunned United with a powerful shot that was saved by goalkeeper David De Gea, preventing the hosts from achieving victory.
United currently sits in seventh place with 32 points from 20 matches, while Villa is in 13th place with 23 points.
