Real Madrid and Atalanta Observe a Minute of Silence Before Today's Match

The Spanish club Real Madrid and its Italian hosts Atalanta will observe a minute of silence in honor of the young Ivorian player Willy Braciano Ta Bi, who passed away yesterday, Tuesday, according to UEFA.

UEFA published a picture of the late Atalanta player today, stating: "On behalf of the European football community, everybody at UEFA is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Atalanta player Willy Ta Bi. There will be a minute’s silence to honor the midfielder ahead of tonight’s Champions League match between Atalanta and Real Madrid."

It is worth noting that the Italian club Atalanta announced yesterday the death of their Ivorian player Willy Ta Bi at the age of 21 after a long battle with illness. Willy Ta Bi joined Atalanta in 2019 and helped the club win the Italian Under-19 league title that same year before being diagnosed with liver cancer and beginning treatment for the disease. Atalanta is set to host Real Madrid today, Wednesday, in the first leg of the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League.
