With the rise in COVID-19 infections, the World Health Organization continuously emphasizes the importance of good nutrition for cases that do not require hospitalization and are isolating at home, to combat this pandemic that has devastated the world for over a year, resulting in millions of infections. In this regard, a recent study conducted by the "Food and Nutrition Research Institute" affiliated with the Department of Science and Technology in the Philippines revealed that adding virgin coconut oil to the diet helps in the recovery from COVID-19. The institute confirmed that "virgin coconut oil can be used as a nutritional supplement for those who might be infected with COVID-19, due to its immune-boosting and antiviral properties," according to the Manila Times. The study, the results of which were published in the "Journal of Functional Foods," involved 63 individuals residing in two facilities for isolating COVID-19 patients in Santa Rosa, Laguna. It is worth noting that COVID-19 has affected over 171 million people worldwide, with the total number of deaths caused by the virus exceeding 3.57 million as of Wednesday. Cases of the virus have been recorded in over 210 countries and regions since the first cases were detected in China in December 2019.
