The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced the martyrdom of journalist Shireen Abu Akleh from Al Jazeera during the Israeli forces' incursion into the Jenin camp. The Ministry reported Abu Akleh's death shortly after she sustained critical injuries from a live bullet to the head. Abu Akleh was covering events in the camp alongside Jerusalem newspaper reporter Ali Samoudi, who also sustained moderate injuries from a gunshot to the back, and his condition was described as stable. Al Jazeera stated that "colleague Shireen Abu Akleh was wearing a press vest when she was targeted by the Israeli army." Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas held the Israeli forces fully responsible for the death of the Al Jazeera correspondent.
