After being left in a field during cold weather, fate intervened when a dog and her puppies found an abandoned newborn and kept her warm throughout the night, preventing her from certain death. The British newspaper "Daily Star" reported from local sources in India that "local residents in Chhattisgarh claim someone left the newborn baby in the field at night, exposed and still attached to her umbilical cord. She was found by a dog who cuddled her all night with her puppies."
Local representative Monalal Patil stated that he discovered the newborn after performing daily chores, adding: "At 11 AM, we saw a crying newborn lying next to the puppies in our village. We were terrified and informed the health department before transferring the baby to the hospital for further examination."
Commenting on the incident, one local resident remarked: "Perhaps the warmth from the puppies and their mother is what kept this newborn alive. Usually, temperatures drop at night, and this is December. I must say she was lucky."
According to the newspaper, the baby was found next to a group of puppies, unharmed, and was discovered after locals heard her cries. The villagers reported the incident to the panchayat, a local government body, which then contacted the police and transferred the child to the "Child Line" project after she was examined by doctors at a local hospital. She has since been named "Akanksha."
One local resident stated that it's a "miracle" the baby survived the night, as stray dogs can be dangerous. He added: "They are not parents; they are criminals. It's just a miracle we found a newborn alive while stray dogs lurked in the night." Currently, police are conducting investigations in search of the girl's parents.
