Warning: Juice Increases Cancer Risk

New research has revealed that fruit juices can increase the chances of developing cancer by up to 22 percent, according to the British website "Express." The source explained that this is due to the high amounts of added sugars in fruit juices, in addition to those naturally present in the drink. A study published by the French public health agency warned that fruit juices could be a major cause of the increased cancer risk.

In the study, researchers analyzed data from more than 100,000 people—79 percent of whom were women—after initially asking them to fill out questionnaires about their consumption of certain nutrients in their daily diets. Participants completed the questionnaires every six months over a span of 5 years. The results revealed that the average person consumes approximately 93 ml of sugary drinks or 100 percent fruit juice each day.

The researchers found that each additional 100 ml consumed beyond the 93 ml was associated with an 18 percent increase in the risk of developing all types of cancer. They also discovered that the risk increases by 22 percent in relation to breast cancer among women.
