Several people were injured on Saturday when a train derailed in the state of Montana, according to Amtrak, the railroad company. The company stated in a release that "Amtrak is working with local authorities to transport the injured passengers and safely evacuate all other passengers," noting that approximately 147 passengers were on board, along with 13 crew members. According to the Associated Press, three people died in the incident. The company's statement indicated that five train cars derailed around 4:00 PM local time (10:00 PM UTC) near Joplin in northern Montana. Video footage shared on social media and reported by local media showed individuals near the train tracks with scattered luggage around them. The emergency and disaster services coordinator in Montana told the New York Times that at least two people had died and "over 50 people were injured."
