Sleem Khoury: No Political Cover for Anyone in the Beirut Explosion Case

MP Sleem Khoury expressed his hope that the new investigating judge in the Beirut port explosion case will "uncover the major crime that occurred against all Lebanese and name things as they are, summoning those who should be investigated," rejecting "the injustice faced by some detainees who fulfilled their duties by reporting the need to dispose of the materials present in the Beirut port." He stated, "We have no political cover for anyone."

In an interview on "Voice of Lebanon" radio, he emphasized the necessity for the caretaker government to convene during these difficult circumstances to approve the public budget and send signals to the outside world that this state is still functioning. He held the designated Prime Minister Saad Hariri responsible for the delay in forming the new government and the deterioration Lebanon is experiencing, especially on the economic front, noting that "the formation of a new government would positively influence the country, but it must occur according to constitutional principles." Khoury urged Hariri to "increase his visits to Baabda Palace and open the door to discussion with President Aoun without conditions or counter-conditions, as we are in a race against time and there is an urgent need to form the government quickly." He added, "The Free Patriotic Movement has no conditions, nor do we want the blocking third." He highlighted "the continuous dialogue between the Free Patriotic Movement and Bkerke," noting that what the Patriarch proposed is a significant issue, but they are not aware of the details." He remarked that "there is significant pain among the people of Tripoli that justifies their outcry," considering that "there are no indications of a high-profile role for Turkey in Tripoli."
