After years of legal battles, a Russian woman will receive an "astronomical" sum following her divorce from her extremely wealthy ex-husband. Russian billionaire Farkhad Akhmedov and his ex-wife Tatiana Akhmedova have reached a settlement regarding a record divorce amount of $625 million, mandated by the High Court in London in 2016. This dispute led to Akhmedova's failed attempt to seize a luxurious 115-meter yacht owned by her ex-husband through the courts, in addition to a separate court order requiring her son, Timur, to pay her over £70 million from family assets. A spokesperson for Akhmedova stated, "It was not about the amount, but about a husband fulfilling his obligation to his family," rejecting claims by a spokesperson for her ex-husband that it would have been better for her not to have filed a lawsuit. The British newspaper "The Times" reported that Akhmedova will receive around £150 million, which will also cover legal costs. Akhmedova's lawsuit was funded by the specialized litigation finance company Burford Capital, which stated it will receive approximately $103 million for its efforts in enforcing the $625 million judgment. British judge Gwenyth Knowles remarked in her ruling regarding Timur, Akhmedova’s son, in April: "The Akhmedov family is one of the most miserable families to come before my court."
