Argentinian star Lionel Messi, a seven-time world best player, announced that he will clarify "many things" after the 2022 FIFA World Cup, without revealing further details about his plans. This statement came after leading his country to a 3-0 victory over Venezuela on Tuesday in a marginal match within the World Cup qualifiers.

In Buenos Aires, after scoring Argentina's third goal, Messi said, "After the World Cup, I will clarify many things. Regardless of the result there, we hope things will be good." Argentina has already secured qualification in the South American qualifiers, while Messi hopes to win his first World Cup title after four appearances, the most notable being in 2014 when he finished as a runner-up to Germany after extra time.

In response to a question about his future plans, the Paris Saint-Germain player, who will turn 35 in June, stated, "I don’t know. I’m thinking about what’s close, which is the Ecuador match (Tuesday in Guayaquil). After that, there are preparatory matches in September and October. Then there’s the World Cup, and after that, I don’t know."

The former star of Barcelona added, "I have been happy here in Argentina for a while. It’s nice to enjoy with this crowd and this team, and to win the Copa América with this wonderful group." He clarified that winning at La Bombonera was important "to say goodbye to the fans since we won’t play here before the World Cup."

Messi is having a fluctuating season in Paris after being eliminated in the Round of 16 of the Champions League against Real Madrid, having squandered an advantage in the first leg.
