The "Russia Today" agency reported that the spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, stated that "the organization received a letter from Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu addressed to Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, requesting the use of the form Türkiye instead of the usual form 'Turkey' in the international arena." He explained that "the change of the country's name from one form to another came into effect as soon as the letter was received." Turkey had submitted a request to the United Nations to register its name in the other languages officially recognized by the international organization as "Türkiye," as it is written in Turkish.
